(More customer reviews)The storage totes are much better than the plain vacuum seal bags. The canvas outer bag keeps the inner plastic bag from tearing. If you don't overfill the totes, then they vacuum down nicely. I'm very pleased with the amount of clothes that I can fit in a tote. The jumbo totes hold the equivalent of 2-3 large vacuum seal bags. I also love how well they stack in a corner. The regular vacuum seal bags are lumpy and just slide off of a pile and onto the floor. The jumbo totes are great!

This time, I researched and tested models for comparison. Overall, Luv400T is performing better than expected, my Pros and Cons (I have high pile carpets and ceramic tile floors):
PROS:
1. Box lightweight/vacuum easy to assemble.
2. The bagless container EASY to empty, design limits the mess (it compacts the floor debris so it comes out in a solid versus loose and blowing around).
3. Switch suction level and carpet/floor option using fingertip control.
4. Foot pedal to adjust height level. Attachments easy to switch.
5. Lighter/easier to push than Kenmore Intuition. Better carpet suction than Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary model.
6. Luv400T is QUIET compared to most (my pets don't run away).
7. Great on pet hair pick up (floor & sofa). Suction on carpet better than model Luv300B. Great on bare floors, above average carpet suction.
8. Dusting wand on low suction great on wood blinds and quick furniture dusting. No bags to buy, comes w/extra filter.
9. Comes with a mattress attachment that gets dust/debris without damage mattress.
CONS: I miss self-propelled feature, that would make this vacuum. List price is high, but you get what you pay for & Sears always has sales/specials. Carpet suction improved, but could be stronger.
WHY I BOUGHT IT: I can switch options, mode, features of this vacuum with little effort, and no turning off vacuum. Very efficient. I have other LG products, they have been repair free and reliable.
WHY I WAS SURPRISED: Easier to use than I thought, bagless design very good, operates at lower noise level than most, mattress attachment more useful than expected.

Miele S4 Series Lightweight Canister Vacuum Cleaners Review

(More customer reviews)First, let me just say that prior to buying the Miele Antares, I owned a different ("low-end") Miele vacuum for 16 years. I ran it all the time, it was totally ahead of its time in terms of performance and style, and I never once serviced it.
However, after 16 years, it needed minor servicing, and though they told me at the shop that it still had some life left in it (the vacuum store told me that Miele motors are built to last for 20 years), I decided to trade in my old Miele and upgrade to the Antares. WOW! This unit is amazing. It's quiet, it's lighter, it has variable settings for suction power, and it's really powerful. I highly recommend investing in the add-on turbo brush ($100), especially if you have pets. (I hate to vacuum, but I do have pets, and the turbo brush literally scrubs the fur out of your carpet.)
But even if you own an old Miele, like my previous one, you could just buy the turbo brush and add it on--the Miele design is consistent enough that often the same components can be used for multiple models, covering a wide span of years (for example, the Antares uses exactly the same vacuum cleaner bags that my 16-year-old Miele used).
I recommend that you don't waste your time with vacuum cleaners that will only last 3-5 years. Read the user reviews online of other competing products that don't last nearly as long, and then buy a Miele.

I too got hooked by the baking soda demo, that's just amazing. I'd just bought a Dyson the year before and I loved all the accessories but the bagless feature I thought I'd like turned out to be a negative...dust goes everywhere when you empty it, you have to go outside...and then it just blows back on you. PIA. I'd rather just dispose of a bag thank you. Also, I continued to have dust settling problem on all my furniture and electronics, the Dyson seemed to stir up a lot of dust in the air. After a week with Sentria I won't go back. Much less dust on all my furniture. I suspect it will continue to decline to nothing as I cycle through all the dust in the air settling on the floors.
Yeah, the shampooer isn't as thorough as a commercial shampooer/vacuum..but I didn't buy it for that anyway. If you spill something that goes to the pad, even a commercial shampooer won't get all that out...just lift your carpet and see for yourself, been there done that several times.
I also like the wallmount accessory box, very nice way to handle all the accessories.
I agree the in-home sales approach limits them in the market.
but its a great vacuum.

Carpet Pro CPU-1 Commercial Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)Pros: It is a reasonably priced (less than half the price of a Dyson!), reasonably quiet, has a reputation for durability, picks up cat hair (yea!), and has a nice long cord so you are not having to move your plug around every room.
Cons: Haven't found any yet... I guess the one thing some people will dislike is that it's a big yellow monster, so it doesn't have the style cachet of a Dyson or even Hoover. But it's a vacuum cleaner, so I quickly got over that.
I stressed over our vacuum cleaner purchase more than I should have. I read the Amazon reviews, Consumer Reports, Consumer Search, and any other site I could find.
At the end of the day I came down to this vacuum and the Hoover U8173 Savvy TurboPower... Amazon's reviews of the Hoover U8173 Savvy TurboPower vacuum were limited in number but all positive; however, there was a mixed story out on the web on other sites/reviews about it. There were a few others that I absolutely ruled out after finding killer issues:
Dyson: destroys berber carpets AND costs $500
Hoover Tempo: only $70 or so, but seems to have some durability issues and no onboard tools.
Eureka: Not well built based on reviews and personal experience
This Carpet Pro is thus far amazing. The night it came, I vacuumed and it picked up every piece of dirt and lots I couldn't see. It was also quiet enough that it did not wake my sleeping kids.
Three other observations:
1) I did not order this exact model - I got the CPU-2T model with on-board accessory tools.. I couldn't find that model on Amazon so I ordered it from EZVacuum... And I paid the same price WITH tools as most other stores had the CPU-2 (the model without tools) because of a 10% off coupon... The tools work well - intuitive to use and the hose is sufficiently long for me. I have already e-mailed several Amazon stores to add the CPU-2T as I would have rather bought the vacuum on Amazon.
2) This vacuum is not well known... It took a lot of hunting to learn about it, though two reviews I read were from Vacuum repairmen, who said it was the most durable, trouble-free vacuum they see. I knew it was a bit of a risk to buy a relatively lesser known vacuum. But it is commercial grade
3) We have a cleaning person come for occasional "deep cleaning" of our house - she loved the vacuum. Since she is someone who has lots of experience with different choices, I thought this was a good indicator that the Carpet Pro is a keeper!

UPDATE July 09: We have had this vacuum now for about 9 months, and still love it. It picks up dirt and dust as well as it did when it was new, and behaves like it is indestructible. The only thing I don't love are the bag changes - not the neatest, but well worth the effort!

Update Nov 09: Still going strong - no issues, and cleans as well as the day we got it! One additional comment - it is great for pet hair - the onboard tools do a nice job of snapping pet hair up, and what it doesn't get I use a lint roller on.

Mostly Plastic, cheaply made, and never doing the job good enough, most vacuums today do just enough to get by. This unit by Metropolitan not only pays homage to those legendary cannister vacs of the 1950's, but it actually cleans like them! This vac actually is powerful enough, to suck up, anything it touches, so it not only picks up the deepest dirt, and dust, but if you're not careful, it'll also devour socks, coins, paper, and other small items! This is the type of concentrated, sustained, sucking power, lacking in most contemporary units. With it's mulitiple filtration, quiet operation, and lightweight, this vacuum is a joy to operate. The need to buy filters and bags may be construed as a negative, but in reality, it's a reasonable trade-off, for the true "old school" cleaning power, this unit delivers.

I bought this to use with rugs and on the couch. For the couch it's OK, but on rugs the roller will just stop turning unless you keep it moving. I got a different kind of brush (one by Eureka) and I don't have this same problem. I suspect that the roller unit is just too big so it doesn't maintain good suction. What I really want/need is a tool like this that is driven by a separate motor. i thought this would work and i'd do it on the cheap, but I got what I paid for, which is to say I got poor results.

1.) Small - when I first received my shipment, I was a bit taken aback. The Box was 4'x2'x 1-1/2'. Gosh it was huge and a bit heavy (for a vac). Slowly I opened the package to find another box. A bit relieved, the size seemed a bit more appropriate. I quickly opened the box to find another box. Now we are talking - once this box was opened, I saw what I wanted - a small, good looking, lightweight vac! The Stainless Steel did give the vac a professional appearance.
2.) Lightweight - Definitely meets the bill. No larger in width and length than my keyboard, there will be no problem moving this vac about.
3.) Powerful - I didn't expect much from all the claims (4 horsepower and 95" of waterlift), but this little vac made me a believer in power. This is the first time I only needed to use the crevice tool for awkward corners. Those little pieces of fuzz and hairs that usually needed picked up with your fingers came right up. The seems in upholstery that filled with dust - clean!
4.) Quiet - My subjective is opinion says this machine is quiet for such a powerful vac. In fact, my IQAir Air Cleaner is louder. Switch the 2-speed switch to low (works similar to my old shop vac and this speed); now we are talking quiet!
5.) Long Hose - The 6.5 foot hose, lightweight and flexible does not make the grade. It's adequate for my purposes, but I may purchase a hose extension.
CONS:
1.) The dust bag is quite small (approx. 7" diameter by 5" deep) - this is to be expected in such a tiny package.
2.) Tools look and feel cheap, which is quite typical for all brands. They are however, effective.

Bissell 3950 Velocity Bagless Upright Deep Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)I LOVE THIS VACUUM! My mother and brother own different Dyson vacuums and have tried to convince me to buy one. I was reluctant to spend $450+ for a vacuum, but after my Eureka burned up and stopped sucking I nearly purchased a Dyson.
After much research, I decided to try the Bissell Velocity. It has similar features as the Dyson (dual cyclonic action, hepa, on-board tools, etc) but was on sale for $119 - and at that price, I could give it to a friend and replace with a Dyson if I didn't like it.
I thought my house was clean BEFORE I bought this vacuum - boy was I wrong! I had to empty the dirt canister 4 times and my house is only ~1800 square feet. My carpet feels 'fluffier' to my bare feet! I haven't tried it on my bare tile floors yet, but I am extremely satisfied with it's performance on carpet. Will recommend this to everyone I know!

Miele Tango Upright Vacuum Cleaner - S7580 Tango S7 - Titan Red Review

(More customer reviews)Currently, there is only one other review on this vac, and it is one star. I'm not quite sure why that is. I think this is a fantastic vacuum cleaner. Our previous vacuum died and we needed it to replace it. This last one was the latest in a procession of vacuums that had died after only a couple of years' use.
Apologies to Amazon (from whom I buy nearly everything), but at this price for a vacuum, I wanted local input in a store from an expert. Indeed, the local Miele rep was an expert and put this machine and the favorably reviewed Callisto (?) through their paces for my wife and myself. My wife is only interested in an upright vacuum, although she was tempted by the Callisto. Neither one of us felt like the Tango was particularly heavy, and there is a convenient carrying handle mounted on the machine in a place that makes it particularly easy to carry around. Unlike many vacs, the suction for the floor piece does not go through the hose. When the hose is placed in its home, its suction is turned off and diverted to the floor piece. The machine seems incredibly well made (as it should be for the price). It also articulates where the upright part fits into the floor piece, which allows you to change the angle of the path of the floor sweeper very easily. It picks up all the way out to the edges, and gets under cabinet overhangs quite well. To get under beds, one just wraps the cord around a cord lock under the handle and drops the handle down flat to the floor while holding on to the cord. This allows vacuuming under spaces like beds or tables without bending over.
The difference between this model and the Calypso, $200 cheaper is the controls. The rest seems to be the same. Controls on the cheaper model are mechanical while they are touch key electronic on the more expensive one. Also, on the more expensive unit, there is an 'Automatic' setting which is supposed to determine the type of floor (carpet, tile, scatter rug) and adjust the vacuum power automatically.

It's now August 2010. Vacuum cleaner is still performing well. Only one issue so far is that the red finish is not terribly durable. Lots of scrapes and scuffs, but I don't keep the unit on display with a stand. It lives in the closet. So, I'm still quite happy with the purchase.

(More customer reviews)My husband bought this for me and I must say I was excited as it picks up so much more dirt than my other vacuum. I initially noticed it was quite heavy not so much to push, but just to hold in vacuuming position. Pros: Definately picks up the dirt and easy to empty. I don't smell the pet dander like I do with other machines and really believe this Hepa filter must do quite a bit cause in my old vacuums I couldn't stand to smell the dog and dirt smell left in the bags each time I vacuumed. Also has a separate feature for use on hardwoods and runs very quiet. Cons: Weight, the wheels are too tall and side of machine too large to fit under most cabinets, beds, etc. You'll end up banging up furniture and cabinets trying to get as close as possible to get the edges. I like the idea of just pulling out the handle for use of attachments but the hose and/or extension poles are not quite long enough to reach much and are not the easiest to use, feels like the machine will tip over if you pull too much on the hose. Needs to be much longer extension. Suction appears to be a little weaker when using attachments. The little round attached brush is a bit small in dimension and doesn't appear to be all that well made, but many of them are not anymore. I used it approx 3 different days and really tried to try out all features. The wheels are making a little rubbing sound after this short use, the cannister already has a scrape on it as the silver colored paint is not very durable. Overall I loved the pick up and think it really is a good cleaning vacuumn but believe that it could use some work on ease of use being weight, wheel size and more length for use of attachments.

(More customer reviews)As I stated above this model is an updated version of the Bissell Cleanview Deluxe. I had that vacuum and was sad to give it up in an out of state move. Since my move (I couldn't find another Cleanview to purchsae at that time) I bought a cheap Dirt Devil Extreme Quick vac to get by (with a HEPA filter) and it served me well but would fill up too quickly and lose suction with cat fur and a lot of long human hair. I had been looking to find an updated version of the Cleanview and *poof* recently the SmartClean appeared on amazon before I found it anywhere else. I purchased it without hesitation.
I couldn't wait to get this out of the box and try it out. So far I like it a lot. Felt a bit more bulky than the Cleanview I had, but has the familiar handling. This Bissell added a few features, the retractable cord winder is nice, but I find that it retracts slightly while I vacuum which is a pretty minor annoyance. Suction is great and the included attachments are nice--same as the old Cleanview (powerprush, crevice tool, extender, and upholstery tool. There is a bit more air filtering than the Cleanview but has the same Dirt sensor "red light green light" which makes vacuuming more fun/productive. I simply couldn't believe the dust/pet dander that this vacuum picked up the first time I used it that the Dirt Devil had been missing. HEPA filter is great and necessary for my allergies. For the price range this vacuum is a great purchase, I hope to keep it for a while.

(More customer reviews)I bought the Eureka because I wanted an 'upstairs' vac. You know, the machine that we just keep for the bedrooms. Well, I now use this machine all over the house. Here's what I really like about this vacuum:
fairly quiet operation
variable speed motor
excellent filtration
power nozzle seems self propelled
very large bare floor brush attachment
Now, things I don't like about it:
small bag capacity
flimsy, tiny little dusting brush - worthless (and it keeps falling off the holder)
made in China
The bags, while very small, are easy to change. And they are fairly inexpensive, so I can't kick about that too much. The power nozzle goes under very low things (like beds and coffee tables) and cleans very well. The carpet almost looks new again. The suction is very good, not outstanding, but certainly enough to clean well.
I wish the speed control for the motor was in the hose handle, and not on the cleaner, as I don't remember to bend down to turn the knob when cleaning throw rugs (which is what a speed control is made for), and wind up dragging the throw rugs across the kitchen floor.
All in all, it's a decent cleaner at a decent price, and I feel it will do the job I require of it for many years. For the average person's needs, and in a home less than 2000 square feet, with wall to wall rugs and bare floor surfaces, it's a fine vacuum. I did go to a vacuum cleaner service shop and bought a REAL dusting brush (round, with horse hair bristles) that works like a dream compared to the one included. Cost: $4.

(More customer reviews)To start, I should mention that I'm hard on vacuums. We have different flooring types, multiple levels in the house, animals, long hair and children, as well as living in a never ending construction zone in the center of allergy alley. Thus, I need a fairly heavy performing vacuum that manages flooring transitions as well as being able to do stairs and furniture.
If that weren't asking a lot already, I need it to be heavy enough to be multifiltered and high powered, but light enough that I can tote it up the stairs.
I've had the Platinum Hoover Canister for a 3 months now, and I've been pleased with the performance. This one replaced a previous Windtunnel, and while I miss a few things from the old version (like different power settings), all in all, the new version outperforms the older version.
Pros:
Suction is fantastic. Transitioning from area rugs to hardwoods and then to carpet is easy. Super long power cord lets you do multiple areas without having to unplug and replug. Filters, filters, filters. Allergies in the house have become noticeably better with this unit. It's a lot more quiet that previous versions. Powerhead is fantastic for getting critter hair off the furniture and drapes. Reset button on the main head is a wonderful thing, if like me, you have ninja shoelaces in unlikely places; such as those cleverly hidden by small children who have kicked their shoes under the couch. Almost no dust escapes the vacuum while it is running, and while it is all in one unit...but that leads us to the cons...
Cons:
Emptying this vacuum is not for the wheezy. You will get dirty, you will have a cloud of dust, you will curse yourself and the Hoover engineers if you make the mistake of emptying it in the house. Trust me on this one. The only good way to empty it is to take the canister out to your big trash can, standing upwind and praying.
As well, the canister has collection areas that cannot be touched, washed or otherwise cleaned. I realize that the engineering design behind this was to keep the user away from the dirt, but it also means that if something gets caked in there, like if you clean on a humid day...you're kinda hosed. (No pun intended....ok, a *little* intended.) It's as though the engineers had *seen* someone use a vacuum, but didn't actually vacuum anything themselves, and so hadn't quite worked through the final step of cleaning the vacuum itself.
Still, the minor inconvenience of what I think is a poor engineering decision on that one part, is outweighed by the performance, the price point, and the significant reliability that I've gotten from other Hoover products.
For a neat person with a small space, this vacuum is probably overkill...but for large houses filled with dirt tracking children and animals...this vac is a clear winner in it's price range.
