(More customer reviews)I got this vacuum for Christmas (yes, I know. But in hubby's defense I actually asked for a new vacuum for Christmas). He did TONS of research to identify a canister vac that met my needs: had to use bags, had to be light and good with pet hair. By getting this as a gift cost wasn't as much of a concern as it was kind of a treat, and let me tell you--this is totally worth the cost. It's super light, super quiet, and super effective. I can vacuum while having a conversation, that's how quiet it is. And you can easily take it up and down the stairs. It has a handy little hook that allows you to connect the hose and bar to the canister so that you can carry it all with one hand.
It is so easy to take this vacuum out that I find myself cleaning more frequently than I did before. And its multi-level suction capability makes it perfect for everything from light cleaning of curtains to heavy-duty cleaning of high-traffic carpets. And the unexpected benefit that I love the most: you don't change the attachment when you switch from hard floors to carpet; the same head unit is used for both. I never thought about it, but just pushing a button when I switch rooms rather than having to disconnect and reconnect attachments is a HUGE timesaver. I love this vacuum!

Electrolux EL5020A Intensity Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)This little vacuum packs in power and innovative design. From the first try, I was amazed at the suction. The first time through the house I quickly filled the bag and had to change it. The Intensity pulled up all the little carpet fuzz on the 3-year-old carpet that my old vacuum could never get. It has more power than any other vacuum I've used.
The collapsing design is a nice feature. It folds up into a neat little package that fits easily on a closet floor without running into the coats. I love the controls on the top of the handle. You can go from bare floor to carpet with the touch of a button. The cord retracts nicely. The bag is easy to change, though a bit small, well, because the vacuum is small.
I discovered a nice fail-safe feature when I tried to finish the room when the full bag light was on. The vacuum shut off. I waited a bit to let it cool down, changed the bag, and it started right up. So pay attention to that light.
Overall, the design is fantastic. A couple improvements though would make it even better. For it's small size, light weight and those big wheels, it doesn't corner all that easily. The front is nice and flat and has an edge for going under cabinets, but since the front is the same width as the back, you can't go straight under cabinets. You have to go at an angle and keep adjusting the position. So making the front part a little wider than the back would make going under cabinets a breeze.
Also, if it didn't have that big carrying handle on the top of the canister, it would vacuum right under the bed. The handle isn't positioned well anyway for doing stairs, because when you hold it by the handle to maneuver on stairs, it's too back heavy and tips back. A handle placed a little farther back on the canister would solve that problem - and it would vacuum under the bed.
There are no attachments with this vacuum, but I prefer that it do it's job on the floors and I use a cordless vacuum for furniture, edging and stairs anyway.
Please don't write this vacuum off as a secondary, light-duty vacuum. Even though it's small, it's a full-duty whole house vacuum with plenty of suction.

Does a perfect job every time with the Weston bags ([...]), but doesn't work reliably with the "normal" bags from the lower end manufacturers. Not a problem, since the Weston bags don't cost any more than the generics. BTW, it's cheaper to buy the pre-cut and sized Weston bags than it is to buy the rolls (which you have to cut and seal yourself)? If you're going to seal watery items, or items which can become watery when the vacuum is created (fish, tomatoes, grapes, etc.), it's a good idea to put the items in the sealing bag, fold the bag over, and place in the freezer for a bit to harden the items up before sealing (folding over the bag minimizes ice crystals). Great product. No reservations on recommending.

(More customer reviews)I paid 170 for this at Sears and bought the 60 dollar warranty. The suction is great. It is not loud for a vacuum. It has a power head, as in electricity powers the brush rolers, not suction, so performance is consistent.
Someone mentioned the bags being too small for the unit. It does seem so at first, but actually they puff out into a sort of cubed shape like a popcorn bag, so they actually do fit the compartment. You have three different bag options which are a hepa bag, fine particle bag and then just regular plain old vacuum bags. I went with the middle of the road. But the bag prices are very reasonable. I think I got 8 bags for 10 bucks. The hepa type, if I remember were two bags for 15, and the regular bags were like 15 for 10 dollars.
What I didn't like most upon deciding, since I went to sears and checked them all out, were the cheap feeling plasic compartment doors that hold the accessories. It feels like it will just break off if you open it, but it doesn't.
I have four types of flooring, rough hand laid cement, low grade plywood, unfinished pine, and area rugs (the kind from walmart), It worked great on all these types.
I also have a woodstove, so my house accumulates dust fast, plus I have a bunch of kids and live in the country and alot gets tracked in from the outside. This vacuumed up the fine dust generated from the woodstove, cobweb, bits of cement, sheetrock, and fiberglass, dust bunnies, everything... no problem. I pick up larger debris before vacuuming such as woodchips and toys. I pretty much just keep in mind the diameter of the hose and if I think it could get lodged in the hose or not.
Ok, so you get the power head for carpet. It has about four different height settings, works great. The onboard tools include a bare floor attachment, works great and has a short row of bristle on both sides of it. There is an upholstry tool that works great. I have some fabric covered walls (that old 90's office type) and it vacuumed cobweb and dust-lint off them and they look nice again. And it has a crevice tool. I used to own a eureka boss and used the dust brush attachment alot. This did not come with one, but I ordered one for 10 and it should arrive soon. I like to dust with my vacuum. I wish it had come with that attachment. Also, if you order it at the sears store you don't have to pay shipping and they will ship it to your house free.
I don't have pets, so no idea how it does on dog hair. I do have a dog that visits occasionally, but it is short haired. I don't notice any dog hair in my house.
Also, this vacuum uses the same motor as all the Kenmore canisters. The only reason I didn't go with the orange colored one, which is priced just below this one is because the metal rod that attaches to the hose and power head doesn't connect and disconnect as easily. I just thought the other one would be too inconvenient.
I vacuum alot so the features are important to me, but I'm also very conservative with my money so I only buy what I need and no more. The more expensive ones are way more attractive, but this one is very lightweight and portable. I am a very petite person and the nicer vacuums seemed more cumbersome to me. I had also considered a miele vacuum. I think this is a way better value for the money. With the warranty, this is covered indefinately. For 60 dollars I get a 5 year warranty which I can renew every 5 years. They service it free every year for free, and if anything fails on it in between, it is still free to have repaired, not including belts bags and filters, naturally.
Also I had no problem carrying this while using it. Like when I used it to clean the top shelf of the kitchen cabinets, where the rod isn't convenient because you have to be close and lay the brush flat for scrubbing.
I havent used this in my vehicle yet, but as a tip, I keep an extension cord on a cord reel I got at walmart for 10 dollars, and I unwind it to my vehicle when I use my little green machine to shampoo the carpets. That way your cord doesn't get dirty on your machine, just the extention cord which I leave outside. I hope this info helps!!!! I recommend this over any other vacuum!!!!

Miele S7 Twist S7210 Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Unfortunately, it developed a "clunking" noise within a couple of weeks, and she discovered there was a metal piece that was bent. Per Miele's instructions she took it to an authorized dealer who said the damage could not have been caused by usage, but the company rep was not convinced. To make a long story short, Mr. Vac & Mrs. Sew took care of the problem with amazing speed, and the vacuum is now fixed.
My daughter loves this vacuum; not only how well it works but also how quiet it is. When I need a new vacuum (which will probably be sooner rather than later!) I will buy this vacuum from this seller.
This is a good reminder to always check a product right out of the box - turn it upside down and look underneath - to be sure there is no damage.

While this vacuum is expensive, it has never required repair. If you buy it from a royal vacuum shop, you get 5 or 8 year factory warranty and the shops usually offer free cleanings every 6 months.
I drop off a full dirty vacuum and it comes back with the bristles cleaned and a fresh bag and a tune up - free!
It's all metal - so no cheapie plastic parts breaking off.
AND - it's suction and cleaning is absolutely fantastic.

(More customer reviews)I received my Pet Roomba before Christmas and have been using it since. My house is a real test with 3 very long haired dogs inside most of the day. I run the Roomba every day to keep the hair down to a minimum and we've noticed the floors are much cleaner (even though I used to vacuum alot). However, if you buy this you should know that it requires frequent cleaning of the brushes, particularly the axle area where hair gets easily wrapped (pull off the end cap over the axle). By frequent I mean once or twice during the cleaning cycle. Otherwise, the brushes just stop moving leaving you with a cute robot that just drives around chasing the dogs! So this means you really should only run it when you are at home to keep it clean. I also have already cleaned the front wheel (just pops off - was really full of hair) and the side brush (unscrew the screw). Bottom line, the unit works great so long as it is kept really clean. I've got the cleaning down to a minute so it isn't too big of a deal. But if you think you are just going to run the Roomba and empty the dirt bin once in awhile, you should probably not buy it.

iRobot Roomba Pet Series 562 Vacuum Cleaning Robot Review

(More customer reviews)We've had our Roomba since January 2010 and approx. 6 months later, I still love it and am really glad we made the purchase. It took a little convincing for me to get my husband to agree with the purchase, but now he calls it "his vacuum", and likes to show it off to our friends and family when they come over. For us, it really has reduced my weekly in-house workload. With two cats in the house, birds, bunny, and a dog, pet hair gets tracked throughout the house. With two young children, our kitchen (hardwood floors) gets nibblets of food all over the floor. Setting the vacuum up to focus on one room (by using the virtual walls) makes a big difference. Frequently ours is venturing throughout the entire house.
The only problem we occasionally have is when it gets stuck under our china cabinet, or stuck while trying to suck up a toy that was left behind, or shoelaces hanging off a shoe left out. All very minor issues. I will say, it's a bit odd, when in the middle of the night (like last night), I get woken up by it coming into our bedroom. My guess is it gets turned on by the cats while they're running around playing at night. I hope that's all it is. ;)
I will say that I do still run my other vacuum cleaner (an old Rainbow) about once a month. We have a particular rug in our living room that the pet hair gets ground in after a while and it's hard to get it up with the Roomba, but in general, the carpets look like we regularly vacuum, and you can see all it picks up when you clean it out. Note that you do have to clean it out regularly, and by that I mean, every time it's done with a cleaning. This might seem a pain to some, but it really only takes about 5 minutes to do it. It's worth it to me if it means I can program it to come on whenever I want and come home to cleaned carpets. Neato XV-11 All Floor Robotic Vacuum System Review

(More customer reviews)I really like this robotic vacuum. It cleans a ridiculous amount of pet hair and dust from my carpet! I used a Roomba, which was fairly good but the drawback was it couldn't navigate to other rooms and back as well as the Neato does. The other drawback was it couldn't figure out how to get onto area carpets without the spinning brush on the front getting stuck. For the Neato, this is no problem at all. Instead of bouncing all around looking for light houses it will detect doorways and move from room to room in a more logical fashion.
The suction and cleaning ability is amazing. I would place the suction power closer to an actual upright vacuum. The noise level is a bit quieter than an upright and maybe a little louder than the whine of a Roomba. There is significantly less bumping, which overall, makes the Neato quieter. It still bumps into things (mostly table legs) from time to time but nowhere near as hard or as frequent.
Battery life is adequate. About an hour to 90 minutes I've seen. I have several large rooms for it to work on and it doesn't do them both in a single charge. The nice thing about the Neato is it will recharge itself (2-3 hours) when the battery runs out then it will resume exactly where it left off to complete the job.
Coverage is very good. It does seem to miss very small parts of the room but nothing major. I have debris from a litter box for it to clean up and it does get nearly every single scrap that comes out. I have it scheduled to run nightly and it picks up way more dust and fur than the Roomba.
If you don't want the Neato to go somewhere your only choice is to close the door or place down a black magnetic strip. Very ugly compared to Roomba's lighthouse solution.
Another thing to mention is there is no option for it to clean a small area. It has to do the entire job.
I've taken a star off because the customer service is HORRIBLE. Mine was broken from day one due to a known defect (the battery is buzzing and not charging when connecting to the dock). I spent FIVE days and FIVE CALLS on the phone with customer support and it got me NOWHERE. First they said they'd give me a next day shipping label which sounded reasonable. That never came. After more and more calls getting nowhere they then wanted me to ship it ground and CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD AGAIN FOR ANOTHER ROBOT??? Again, I still don't know if I would ever get a shipping label. Truly frustrating.

Bissell 3554 Lift-Off Upright Vacuum with Detachable Canister Vacuum Review

(More customer reviews)I used couple of similarly priced vacuums over the last 5 years and this one is to keep until it lasts. I've been using it for almost 3 years now and had not a single problem.
Pros
1. Less Sound
2. Adjusts automatically very well when you move from hard floors to carpeted areas.
3. Detachable Canister is very light and is so convenient to carry around stairs and to clean blinds, etc.
4. White color makes it look pleasant and neat and the filter system is a plus.
Cons
1. Very Very Very very hard to buy replacement bags and filters in stores like Walmart, Target, Kmart,etc.
I loaded on bags from amazon just to make sure I will not have problem finding them in future. Same with filters.

While most of my Dyson vacuum can be taken apart and washed with water and soap, there are bits that can't quite be disassembled in such a manner, and over the years, they've started to collect their own... special... odors. While vacuuming a nice section of carpet with some carpet-fresh type material on it would make the exhaust smell good for a while, it wouldn't last.
I purchased these Fresh Wave Vacuum Pearls on a whim - mostly after reading the good reviews about their other gel products. I will say that after a good two months of using this product, they do work as advertised. The pearls absorb some of the built up odor in the vacuum as well as releasing a light scent of its own. The scent is not heavy, so those with sensitive noses shouldn't have to worry too much. I would describe the smell as "piney" - sort of like Pine-Sol, but not nearly as pungent.
The pearls aren't super strong, so if you've got strong mildew or some other intense smell hanging around your vacuum, this will make it better, but probably won't mask or resolve the problem entirely. I've also taken to putting in a cap full of the pearls into my kitchen garbage - they do a pretty good job of keeping the garbage can smelling neutral for an extra day or so.

Bissell 37601 Lift-Off Revolution Turbo Upright Bagless Vacuum Review

(More customer reviews)An upgrade to my last Bissell (Cleanview Deluxe),this one is even better....was ONSALE for $160, and well worth it.
Removeable canister capability is easy and makes this vac so much more versitile...such as taking out to your car or for carpeted steps. I really love the user friendly design of these Bissell vacs....never complex, and I don't feel I need a manual to understand or operate.
Super suction...and the brushes are so powerful, it almost feels self propelled as you push forward.
The 'telescoping' function of the extension wand was a nice upgrade, although it does takes a little time getting used to it...also the new dual-headed brush tool is an inovative idea i like.
Another really nice upgrade is the on/off brush power button...and the vac is now smart, even when brushes are powered ON, they wont rotate till you step on the release pedal AND pull the handle down towards you.
I also noticed you can now pull the handle down literally to the FLOOR without the front of the vac lifting up...this means being able to roll further under couches/tight spots.
If I had to give CONS :
1) There are 3 filters...1 HEPA and 2 foam...the foam filters in particular should be cleaned once a month,as directed..but I check even more often (due to high traffic/pets)... They can get pretty dirty relatively fast, and although u may not notice any loss of suction,I assume cleaning these filters often will always improve performance...... Its not hard to do, they are basically foam sponges u can rinse clean, and they dry pretty quick.
2) The vac when all together as 1 unit, is pretty heavy. Doesnt bother me, but may be an issue to some. My wife immediately noticed the weight... The canaster vac, when separated, is easy to carry with its handle, but some may still find even this a little heavy as well.
In my opinion, the weight is due to good construction and a strong motor. I think its worth it.
3) Seems like a lot of new vacs come with some form or version of a 'turbo brush' attachment. I'm not a fan of these...the brushes are SUCTION driven, NOT motor driven. Its a gimmick tool.. I prefer the simple NON turbo brush tool that come with this vac, and I let the suction power (and a little up/down motion of my own) do the work. I keep the turbo brush permanantly removed from the handle altogether. To me its just added dead weight.
4) only 1 improvenment I could think of now is a retracteable cord....

Kenmore Canister Vacuum, Intuition Review

(More customer reviews)My husband just bought this for me since my 2nd kenmore cannister just died. I still have my first one which is very heavy but has the best suction of all three. The hose is all taped up and I can use my accessories from my second vac. This new vacuum is lighter, quieter and has an extending pole so I don't have to bend over as much when vacuuming. The problem is the detachable piece for hardwood floors. It doesn't have great suction and it constatly flips up and I have to push it back down to the floor with my foot so it will be closer to the floor. I think the concept is great but it doesn't clean my hardwood floors as well as the first 2 vacuums. I also don't like the small wheels on the detachable piece to clean hardwood floors. They constantly keep the piece elevated just enough so it doesn't get that close to the floor and it tips back and forth. The vacuum in general is a good size but when you try to pull it around it smashes into furniture or into walls. My husband thinks since it was rated so high by CR and by the sales person at the store, it must be good. Well, if he actually had to USE it for himself he may think otherwise .
